Patty Duke, born Anna Marie Duke, was an American actress born in New York, New York, USA. She gained recognition as the youngest actress to win an Academy Award for her role in the film "The Miracle Worker" in 1962. Duke also portrayed the blind and deaf Helen Keller on Broadway, solidifying her status as a star. However, Hollywood struggled to find the right roles for her, and she continued to primarily work in television and direct-to-video films.
Television Career and "The Patty Duke Show"
Despite her accomplishments in film and theater, Patty Duke is best remembered for her comedic television show, "The Patty Duke Show," which aired from 1963 to 1966. In the show, Duke played identical cousins who were indistinguishable from each other. This role became a defining moment in her career, even though Hollywood never fully utilized her talents.
Autobiography and Activism
