Biography of John Abraham

John Abraham is an Indian actor and former model. He was born in Mumbai to a father of Malayali descent and a mother of Parsi descent. His father was an architect from Alwaye, Kerala, and he has a younger brother named Alan.

Early Life and Education

After completing his schooling, John enrolled in the Mumbai Educational Trust. He began his modeling career working for 'Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd.' Unfortunately, the company closed down due to financial difficulties. John then worked as a media planner at 'Enterprise Nexus' for some time. In 1999, he won the 'Gladrags Manhunt Contest' and represented India in an international competition in the Philippines, where he secured second place. This victory led to a contract with the Singapore-based company 'Carrie Models,' and he went on to work in Hong Kong, London, and New York.

Modeling and Early Acting Career

While pursuing his modeling career, John also appeared in advertising commercials and music videos. He can be seen in several videos for songs by Pankaj Udhas, Hans Raj Hans, and Babul Supriyo. At a certain stage in his modeling career, John decided to sharpen his acting skills and enrolled in the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting School.

Breakthrough in Films

After working on various advertising projects, John made his film debut in 2003 with the movie 'Jism,' which earned him the 'Best Debut' award at the Filmfare Awards. His next film, 'Dhoom' in 2004, was his first commercially successful film, and he received two more Filmfare nominations for his roles in 'Dhoom' and 'Zinda' in the following years. In 2005, John appeared in the successful film 'Water.' He was nominated for another Filmfare Award in 2007, this time for 'Best Supporting Actor' in the film 'Baabul,' and in 2008, he starred in the film 'Dostana,' which was produced by Karan Johar and achieved good box office collections.

Recent Work

In 2009, John starred in the highly anticipated film 'New York' by Yash Raj Films. The movie depicted the lives of three best friends after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. 'New York' received warm reviews from both critics and audiences. Since 2002, John Abraham has been in a relationship with Indian actress Bipasha Basu.
